Welcome to Atlanta
Elk Capital of Michigan
Enjoy Elk Country
Year-round
The Atlanta Michigan Chamber of Commerce and Member Businesses welcome you to our town. Atlanta is the County seat of Montmorency County and we are the official Elk Capital of Michigan.
If you're looking for a beautiful area to explore, you have come to the right place, as we have year round adventures for you to enjoy.
The Atlanta area is surrounded by 1,000 square miles of State land, lakes and trout streams. Atlanta's Annual Elk Pole, Buck Pole, Camping, fishing, hunting, swimming, canoeing, snowmobiling, ATV/UTV riding, two-track/trails, cross country skiing, bird watching, berry picking, and morel mushroom hunting are but a few of the delightful activities that take place here. All of this and then some, make Atlanta one of the finest areas in the state for outdoor recreation.
Just north of Atlanta is the Clear Lake State Park and an abundance of trails. The Elk Capital of Michigan lives up to it's name, as Elk, grazing in the wild, are common sightings as you cruise our back roads.
The last full weekend in September, thousands of people flood the streets of Atlanta for the Annual Elk Festival. The Elk Fest parade, karaoke contest, live auction, chainsaw carvers, pet parade, bed race, street events, games, food, Entertainment/Beer tent, live entertainment, and a huge array of craft and food vendors are only a sampling of the events planned for you during this weekend.
The second(ish) weekend of February brings the Sno*Drift Rally. This rally has become a premier international spectator race and is sponsored by Rally America. Atlanta is honored to have this event, which brings drivers and racing teams from all over the world to race the challenging course of the snow & ice covered back roads throughout Montmorency County at speeds up to 130 mph. More information can be found at http://www.sno-drift.org
There are many reasons to be in Atlanta. Spend a little time here and you'll find yours.
